Wonderful woods

14th February 2022

I know I’ve been very fortunate but, throughout my career, I have been lucky enough to work for organisations that ‘do good’. I have always cared hugely about what they are trying to achieve and the difference they are trying to make, which has made my job of promoting them that much easier. (Though, switching off from work that much harder!)

When I made the transition to working for myself as a freelancer, I knew that it was vital this continued. Yes, I know I’m unlikely to make my fortune doing this, but it gives me the inspiration and the enthusiasm to keep going – even when juggling the usual work tasks, family, and a million and one other things!

I aim to work with companies and individuals that inspire me. I want to form relationships with businesses that make things better than they were before. Because that’s the root of why I do what I do, and that’s where environment comes into the equation.

Having worked for companies and charities firmly rooted in the ethos of looking after our world, our wildlife and communities, I want to perpetuate this with positive eco action in my business.

I work in the world of words. But it’s also the world of messages and sharing news. It’s the world of creating opportunities to sway people, create ripple effects, and make small but meaningful changes.

Therefore, I will carry on spreading the environmental message and looking for sustainable solutions in my marketing, print, and campaigns. I currently pledge to donate to plant trees for every client I work with, as one small way to ensure I’m contributing to positive action for the planet.

I haven’t mentioned yet how much woodlands mean to me, but when I’m not working, the woods are often where I’m to be found. Wandering with a pram and wayward toddler, getting as muddy as possible, (trying to avert tantrums), and talking endless chatter with him about the names of the trees, the folklore, the wildlife and the wonder. It’s my happy place.

So, whether it’s taking part in tree planting days, conservation events, walking the dog, or simply playing with my children amongst the trees, I’m sure I will see some of you outdoors this year!

Here’s a quick mention of some organisations doing great work with trees:

PECT
The Woodland Trust
The National Forest
Ecologi
Trees for Cities
